DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 3. Foreign balance deficit in Tajikistan from January through March 2023 amounted to $891 million, which is 20.9 percent more than in the same period of 2022 ($737 million), Trend reports.
According to the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), there has been a rise in imports and a decrease in export deliveries in in the reporting period of 2023.
Imports have increased by 2.3 percent year-on-year, reaching $1,235 million, driven by the rapid growth in domestic demand.
On the other hand, exports amounted to $344 million during the period under review, representing a year-on-year decrease of 26.7 percent compared to the same months of 2023.
The EDB economists believed the exports decreased mainly because gold shipments to foreign markets were absent in the first three months of the current year.
Additionally, there was a significant decline in textile exports (down by 37.2 percent compared to the period from January through March 2022) and non-precious metals (down by 10.3 percent compared to the same period of 2022).
