DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 5. It is necessary to expand the structure of trade between Tajikistan and Belarus and strengthen cooperation in the investment sector, the Ambassador of Tajikistan to Belarus Bakhtovar Safarzoda, said, Trend reports.

He noted that there are opportunities to increase trade turnover, particularly in sectors such as food, light industry, innovation, and high technology.

“Further development of cooperation in the tourism sector could be mutually beneficial. Our countries have diverse landscapes – 93 percent of Tajikistan's territory is covered by mountains, while Belarus is known for its forests and lakes. It is essential for our countries to better understand each other's potential and opportunities. This could help revive direct air travel between Dushanbe and Minsk, attracting tourist flows,” the ambassador said.

According to him, one of the priority areas of cooperation is the field of education. The possibility of opening Belarusian university branches in Tajikistan is being explored. The number of Tajik students in Belarus exceeds 200.

He also emphasized that trade and economic cooperation are a priority in the overall relations between the two countries. The range of goods being supplied is expanding, and the volume of mutual trade turnover is increasing.

Trade turnover between Tajikistan and Belarus reached $47.1 million from January through June 2023, which is 1.8 times higher than in the first half of 2022.
