BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 2. The total volume of deposits attracted by banks of Turkmenistan in the national currency in January 2023 amounted to 13.2 billion Turkmen manats ($3.76 billion), Trend reports with reference to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan.

According to the information, the average interest rate on deposits in the specified period was 0.52 percent.

Of the total volume of attracted deposits, bank deposits of legal entities for the first month of this year amounted to 11.15 billion Turkmen manats ($3.18 billion), which is 10.6 percent more than in January 2022 (10.08 billion Turkmen manats, or $2.87 billion).

Furthermore, bank deposits of individuals in January 2023 amounted to 2.04 billion Turkmen manats ($582.25 million), which is 2.2 times more than in the first month of last year (912.97 million Turkmen manats, or $260.58 million).

The total volume of deposits attracted by banks of Turkmenistan in the national currency in 2022 amounted to 872.64 billion Turkmen manats ($249.31 billion), with an average interest rate of 0.31 percent.

Meanwhile, according to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, the official exchange rate of the Turkmen manat against the US dollar on May 2, 2023 is set at 3.5 manats per USD.
