The average temperature in Uzbekistan in the coming weekend will hit about 40 degrees, Uzhydromet said today.
The temperature will rise to 41 degrees even in the northern regions of Uzbekistan - Karakalpakstan, 42 degrees - in the southern regions Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya.
The period from June 25 to August 5 in Uzbekistan is called "chilia" or "saraton." These are the hottest 40 days of the year in the national calendar. Hot weather can last until late August and early September.
Uzbek residents remember last July. The temperature hit 50 degrees in the sunny side of the streets in the country.
In July 2011 the temperature exceeded the average norm by 2-4 degrees. In particular, the hottest day was on July 12, when the temperature was close to the absolute maximum for all the years of weather observations. It amounted to 40-42 degrees.
The temperature was 42-44 degrees in the south and the desert area.
The maximum temperature was the highest for all the years of weather observation in some areas of the country - Navoi, Syrdarya and Ferghana regions.
The maximum temperature was 41.9 degrees in Tashkent, July 12, 2011. The absolute record for Tashkent temperature - 44.6 degrees was recorded on July 18, 1997.
