Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Economic Dev't, UNIDO sign declaration for co-op

Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan Jamshid Kuchkarov and Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Li Yong signed a joint declaration for an initial period of four years (2020-2024), Trend reports citing the ministry.

The joint declaration commits the Ministry of Economic Development and UNIDO to develop cooperation in various areas, including green industry, circular economy, renewable energy, and energy efficiency, agro-industrial clusters, modernization of light industry, and other mutually agreed areas of action to promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development and the achievement of the agenda day for sustainable development for the period up to 2030.

In addition, the joint declaration will contribute to the implementation of the industrial development strategy of Uzbekistan until 2030 and will be accompanied by a roadmap for its implementation.

Cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNIDO lasts more than 27 years and currently includes 15 completed stand-alone projects aimed at technical assistance and policy advice to promote national investment, sustainable employment and entrepreneurship development, export-oriented trade, cleaner production, business-incubators, and enterprise development.

UNIDO is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization, and environmental sustainability. As of 1 April 2019, 170 States are Members of UNIDO. The mission of UNIDO is to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) in the Member States.
