Tashkent accounts for significant share of retail trade turnover of Uzbekistan

A significant share of retail trade turnover in Uzbekistan in January 2021 was noted in Tashkent, amounting to 23.9 percent, or 3.86 trillion soums ($367 million), Trend reports referring to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

According to the committee, the retail trade turnover in Uzbekistan in January 2021 reached 16.19 trillion soums ($1.5 billion) and increasing by one percent compared to the same period in 2020.

At the same time, turnover of large enterprises amounted to 2.27 trillion soums ($216 million) decreasing by 11.2 percent, and small business and private entrepreneurship - 13.92 trillion soums ($1.3 billion) (-0.5 percent), including unorganized trade amounted to 1.42 trillion soums ($135 million) (- 0.9 percent).

It is noted that the significant growth rates in the period under review were noted in Tashkent (8.3 percent), Tashkent (1.1 percent), and Samarkand (1 percent) regions.

In addition, in the structure of retail trade turnover, the turnover of large enterprises increased by 11.2 percent and reached 2.27 trillion soums ($216 million), which is 14 percent of its total volume.

Moreover, the turnover of retail trade of small business and private entrepreneurship amounted to 13.92 trillion soums ($1.3 billion), decreasing by 0.5 percent. The share of this sector in the country in the retail trade turnover reached 86 percent.

The committee noted that the share of small business and private entrepreneurship, in comparison with other regions, was the largest in Surkhandarya (96.3 percent), Kashkadarya (96.1 percent), Syrdarya (95.7 percent) regions, the Republic of Karakalpakstan (95.6 percent) and Jizzakh (94.9 percent) region.

As for the share of turnover of large enterprises, their share amounted to 14 percent of the total sales with the main share observed in Tashkent (33.5 percent), Samarkand (18.8 percent), Tashkent (9.6 percent), and Khorezm (8.5 percent) regions.

It is also reported that retail trade turnover per capita in Uzbekistan in January 2021 averaged 473,100 soums ($45), decreasing by one percent compared to the same period in 2020.

It is reported that this indicator, in comparison with other regions, was mostly recorded in Tashkent, Navoi, and Tashkent regions.

According to the information, in recent years, the role of the public sector in the total volume of wholesale trade has been steadily declining in Uzbekistan. Thus, the share of this sector was fixed at 0.1 percent of the total volume of wholesale trade for the reporting period.

Also, wholesale trade turnover in January 2021 amounted to 8.8 trillion soums ($836 million), including subjects of non-state subordination - 8.79 trillion soums ($835.4 million), state subordination - 7.6 billion soums ($722,369).

Furthermore, the analysis of the share of wholesale trade by type of ownership showed that there is still a small share of state ownership in Tashkent (0.1 percent), Navoi (0.2 percent), Andijan (0.03 percent) regions. In other regions, wholesale trade is generally a non-state form of ownership.
