BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 30

By Fakhri Vakilov – Trend:

Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov met with German Federal German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, who arrived in Tashkent on a visit on August 30, Trend reports citing the press service of Uzbekistan's Foreign Ministry.

The agenda and schedule of upcoming joint events were discussed at the meeting.

Maas expressed gratitude to the Uzbek side for assistance in organizing the evacuation of German and other foreign citizens from Afghanistan amid ongoing events in the country.

According to the German Embassy in Tashkent, the German and Uzbek sides discussed the foreign policy situation, in particular Afghanistan, and international cooperation in crisis situations.

Maas noted that the German government has identified tens of thousands of Afghans, including German citizens, who need to be evacuated. Among them: local staff, as well as human rights defenders and journalists.

“Uzbekistan is ready to help us with these groups of people,” Maas said.

He added that the government in Berlin is only interested in the transit of evacuees from Afghanistan to Germany through Uzbekistan.
