BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 20. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has allocated a grant for the construction of 15 schools in Uzbekistan's Namangan and Fergana regions, Trend reports.

The bank noted that the facilities will be built according to the international standards.

The relevant agreement was signed during the 32nd Annual Meeting of the EBRD Board of Governors held recently in Samarkand. This collaboration marks an important milestone in the partnership between Uzbekistan and the EBRD.

The cooperation with the EBRD for this project started as a result of discussions initiated at the Uzbekistan Economic Forum held in Tashkent in 2021. In the initial stages, internal analyses were conducted to secure the grant and engage consultants. The overall cost of the project is estimated to be around $55-75 million.

Under this partnership, the newly established state general education schools in different regions of the country will operate based on a public-private partnership model. The maintenance and repairs of these schools will be carried out by private partners. Additionally, there are plans to renovate existing schools and construct additional buildings to accommodate the growing student population.

The construction and upgrade of schools in Namangan and Fergana regions will not only enhance the learning environment but also contribute to the overall development of the education sector in Uzbekistan. By aligning with international standards, these schools will provide students with modern facilities and resources necessary for a quality education.
