TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 1. Uzbekistan and Russia have signed a Memorandum on Cooperation in the energy sector to develop cooperation in the field of gas supplies and transportation, as well as in the field of exploration and production of hydrocarbons, Trend reports.
The document was signed during a meeting between Chairman of the Gazprom Management Board Alexey Miller and Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov within the framework of the Saint Petersburg International Gas Forum 2023.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the course and prospects of cooperation, particularly, the supply of Russian gas to Uzbekistan through the territory of Kazakhstan, which began in October 2023.
The participants noted that a specially allocated route based on the Central Asia — Center gas trunk pipeline system is of great importance for stable energy supply to consumers in Uzbekistan, which is especially important in the autumn-winter period.
Meanwhile, a contract for the supply of Russian gas to Uzbekistan and a Roadmap for preparing Uzbekistan's gas transportation system for the acceptance and transportation of Russian pipeline gas were signed in June 2023.
Moreover, in October 2023, a solemn ceremony was held dedicated to the beginning of the supply of Russian natural gas to consumers of the Republic of Uzbekistan through the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event was attended by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
