TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 2. More than 4 trillion soums ($326.8 million) have been allocated for the modernization of energy networks in Uzbekistan over the past five years, Trend reports.

The announcement came after President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with energy sector authorities to examine the status of ongoing projects and discuss the country's energy system readiness for the next autumn-winter season.

The delegates reviewed the technicalities of launching reserves worth at least 10 billion soums ($817,160) in each region of the country during the talks. In the event of an accident, these monies will be utilized to replace energy transformers, wiring, and other spare parts.

It was discovered that 33,000 transformers and 122,000 kilometers of electrical networks in the provinces, particularly in Tashkent, Namangan, and Syrdarya, had become obsolete. From January to September of 2023, around 12% of all electricity produced was lost.

In this regard, the president stressed the necessity to upgrade outdated transformers and networks in order to reduce electricity losses by 1-2 percent per year.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan has produced 52.2 billion kWh of electricity from January through August 2023.

As per data provided by Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy, the recorded number is 5.8 percent more than in the same period of 2022 (49.3 billion kWh). Over 13.06 billion kWh of electricity was supplied to the population in the reporting period, which is 18.4 percent more compared to the same period in 2022 (11.04 billion kWh).
