Tehran’s court reduces Abbas Palizdar’s sentence from 10 to 6 years

Accusations of committing actions by Abbas Palizdar to undermine state security of Iran were removed, Fars agency reported.

Palizdar's lawyer Mustafa Turkhemedani said that Tehran's Court of Appeal removed accusations filed towards Abbas Palizdar in activity directed to undermine state security. The court reduced Palizdar's term of imprisonment from 10 to 6 years.

Abbas Palizdar is one of political supporters of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He was arrested June 11, 2008 after he addressed students and accused some high-ranking religious leaders of the Islamic Republic of corruption.

Abbas Palizdar was accused of telling lie and striving to mislead public opinion. Moreover, Iranian bank Mellat brought a suit against Palizdar because he did not pay off the loan worth $6.6 million he took 16 years ago.
