Iran prepares program for production of anti-aircraft missile systems of long-range

At present, Iran is preparing a program for the production of anti-aircraft missile systems of long-range, Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said, MEHR news agency reported.

He added that the decision on the production of missile systems in Iran was made in connection with the cancellation of the supply systems of S-300 by Russia.

Two days after the imposition of new sanctions, June 9, the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation has analyzed the provisions of UN Security Council's resolution on Iran and came to the conclusion that the restrictive measures concern supplies of anti-aircraft missile systems - S300 to Iran. Later this conclusion was confirmed by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The contract on supplies of S-300 to Iran by Russia was signed in December 2005. But it was not reported about the start of its implementation officially. In December 2008, Iranian official news agency IRNA reported with reference to deputy chairman of the parliamentary commission on foreign policy and security Ismail Kosari that Russia has begun delivery of components to a system of air defense S-300 to Iran. Later federal service officially stated that the information on the supply of air defense systems S-300 to Iran does not correspond to reality.
