Nearly two-thirds of the work on offshore and excavation work for the South Pars oil field's phase 17 and 18 is complete, SHANA news reported Pars Oil and Gas Company's managing director Sepher Sepehri as saying.
After Iran's oil minister prioritised acceleration of projects underway in the joint oil field, a contractor was chosen for the final excavation of the South Pars's phases 17 and 18 and work on 22 wells will soon begin, Mr Sepehri said.
Getting the excavation of these phases underway is an important strategic priority.
Iran and Qatar have shares in the South Pars gas field. The Iranian share which is divided into 29 phases, accounts for about 14 trillion cubic metres of gas, or about eight per cent of the total world reserves and more than 18 billion barrels of liquefied natural gas resources.
