Launching of the Gorgan-Incheboroun passenger train was officially inaugurated.

It covers a distance of 75 kilometers from Gorgan in north of Iran to Incheboroun which is located on border with Turkmenistan.

Iranian First Vice President Es'haq Jahangiri attended the inauguration ceremony in the northern province of Golestan.

The passenger train has 336 seats and runs at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour, Iran's ISNA news agency reported on August 4.

Deputy Director of Iran's Construction & Development of Infrastructures Transportation Company (CDITC) Seyed Masoud Nasr Azadani said that some 1.3 trillion rials (some $40 million based on the exchange rate of US dollar at the free market) have been invested in Gorgan-IncheBoroun railway project.

"The railroad aims at transferring 14 million metric tons of goods annually," he explained.

Deputy Manager of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Hossein Ashouri said in March that Iran's railway will be connected to Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan in the near future.
