An Iranian company has started producing expanded polypropylene (epp), waiving the need for the country to import it.
Epp is a thermoplastic polymer used in a wide variety of applications including car parts, packages, isolators, fake leather, etc.
Ahmad Mokhtar, the company’s CEO said his factory will produce 500 tons of epp each year, IRIB news agency reported March 27.
According to Mokhtar, the domestically made product is one third of imported ones in price, saving Iran $50 million each year.
The factory is situated in Borujen, Charmahan-Bakhtiari Province. Some 150 billion rials ($4.6 million) investment went into establishing it.
