The West has been lying about Iran's nuclear program for the past 10 years, Islamic Republic parliament speaker Ali Larijani said, IRIB News reported.
Larijani made the remarks before the students of Iran's Science and Technology University.
"The nuclear issue is just an excuse for the West to prove itself on International arena," Larijani said, noting this is based on his personal experience of negotiating with the Western representatives.
Larijani noted that the Western negotiators have been repeatedly saying things "behind the scenes", being concerned about situation in the region changing to Iran's favor.
"They only think about hostility and domination, using nuclear issue as a tool. If we halt the program, they will find something else, like the human rights issue," Larijani said.
Referring to the report by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Iran, Ahmed Shaheed, Larijani said it does not reflect the truth.
"Ahmad Shaheed lists country's penal code, homosexuality problems, linking those to human rights. It seems like he gathered wrong information from irrelevant sources," Larijani said. "Iran is pressured on this issue, while UN doesn't pay attention to the fact that in Saudi Arabia the law forbids women to drive cars."
