PACE delegation to assess Georgian pre-election status

A delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, composed of five people will visit Georgia on September 11-12 to assess the reelection situation before the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 1.

A delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, composed of five people will visit Georgia on September 11-12 to assess the reelection situation before the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 1.

The delegation led by Luca Volonte of the Group of the European People's Party, will meet with President Saakashvili, Speaker David Bakradze, Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze, as well as representatives of political parties.

The delegation will also meet with the chairman of the Central Election Commission Zurab Kharatishvili, chairman of the Commission for verification of voter lists Mamuka Katsitadze from the New Right, head of the state audit service Lasha Tordia and representatives of the diplomatic corps, civilian bodies and the media.

'The full PACE delegation of 21 people will come back to Georgia to observe the voting process before making a final assessment', the PACE press release said.
