SOCAR continues gasification of customers in Georgia

SOCAR Energy Georgia, representing the interests of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Georgia from 2009 has linked up 138,470 subscribers, the Ministry of Energy of Georgia told Trend on Wednesday.

It is stated in the information that today SOCAR Energy Georgia continues to work throughout Georgia and it is planned to increase the number of subscribers to 208,000.

In particular, the opening of a new gas pipeline, laid in the beginning of the process of gasification of Kharagauli, was held. The ceremony was attended by the President of Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili, Energy Minister Vakhtang Balavadze and representatives of SOCAR Energy Georgia.

A gas pipeline with length of 3.9 kilometres in Kharagauli was laid at the first stage. As a result 244 families were provided with gas. It is scheduled to lay another 12 kilometres in the second stage which will enable the provision of another 706 subscribers with gas.

SOCAR Energy Georgia offers domestic gasification on credit with monthly payments up to 25 lari ($1 = 1.65 lari).

Today, SOCAR Energy Georgia gasified 9,689 families in Imereti.

On Dec. 26, SOCAR and the Georgian Government signed an agreement to operate 30 gas supply grids and gas distribution networks in the Kakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Shida and Kvemo Kartli, Ajaria, Guria, Imereti, Samegrelo regions of Georgia. These networks are operated by 24 companies.

In April, SOCAR Energy Georgia acquired a gas distribution network in the Marneuli region populated by Azerbaijani community. Marneuli has 31 gas supply grids operated by SOCAR Georgia.

Gas distribution networks in Marneuli were previously owned by Wissol which bought gas from SOCAR and selling it in Marneuli. Now the whole cycle of works in this direction will be implemented by SOCAR Energy Georgia.
