It is essential for Georgia to have a strong port, said Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy Ivan Scalfarotto, Trend reports via Georgian media outlets.

He made the statement while speaking at the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum 2019 being held in the Georgian capital on October 23.

“Italy has an 8,000-kilometers-long coastline, and we know it well how important access to the sea is. Transportation of more cargo is possible via the sea. Having a strong port is essential for Georgia," Scalfarotto said.

According to him, it will better and more easily connect Asia with Europe through the Black Sea.

The Tbilisi Silk Road Forum is underway in the capital of Georgia.

Representatives of more than 2,000 delegates from 60 countries, including more than 30 official delegations, take part in the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum this year.
