Georgia's hotels to see increase in demand – forecast

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 24

By Maryana Akhmedova – Trend:

Georgia’s hotels expect 55-60 percent occupancy rate in the regions, and 35 percent in Tbilisi in February 2022, Shalva Alaverdashvili, the founder of the Hotel and Restaurant Federation of Georgia, said, Trend reports via Georgian media.

The occupancy rate in Georgia’s hotels began to increase in May 2021 and reached 30 percent, while June 2021 rate was at 45-50 percent, Alaverdashvili said.

Alaverdashvili also noted that the demand for high-class hotels in 2021 increased significantly, while non-branded and small hotels suffered from lack of visitors.

However, among the positive aspects, Alaverdahsvili pointed out the fact that 70 percent of the visitors to the regions in 2021 were Georgian citizens. This tendency was quite low before the COVID-19 pandemic – only 25-30 percent.

Overall hotel occupancy in Georgia in 2021 amounted to 35 percent, the founder of the Hotel and Restaurant Federation of Georgia added.
