CoE commissioner for human rights to arrive in Tbilisi

(www.primenewsonline.com) вЂ" Thomas Hammarberg, CoE Commissioner for Human Rights, will arrive in Georgia on February 12-18.

Aim of the visit is to assess human rights situation in Abkhazian and South Ossetian regions, and in Autonomous Republic Adjara, reports Trend.

Within the frameworks of the visit, the CoE official will hold meetings with the government of Georgia, MPs and leading human rights experts.

The visits to Abkhazia and South Ossetia will include meetings with de facto authorities and representatives of local civil society.

The CoE Commissioner will assess the Georgian authorities' respect for their obligations towards the Council of Europe, especially regarding treatment of national minorities, IDPs, migrants and asylum seekers.
