Late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat did not die a natural death, the head of a Palestinian fact-finding commission said on Friday, dpa reported.

"He did not die of old age and not of an illness," commission head Tawfik Tirawi said in the city of Ramallah.

Swiss scientists said on Thursday that tests support a supposition that Arafat died from polonium poisoning, although they stressed they could not say so with ultimate certainty.

The forensic and radiological experts at Lausanne University Hospital Centre said the result of their work "moderately" supported the allegations that Arafat had died from the radioactive metal.

Palestinians have long accused Israel of poisoning Arafat, who died in 2004 at a French military hospital outside Paris. He was 75.
