Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi on Friday underwent surgery to treat a tendon problem to his right hand, nine months after a similar intervention to his left hand, dpa reported.
The operation for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome at a hospital in Rozzano, near Milan, was successful doctors said, announcing that the 74-year-old premier would be discharged in a few hours.
"Recovery will be very quick. He won't be limited in the use of his hand other than that of allowing the small incision to heal," surgeon Alberto Lazzerini was quoted as saying by the ANSA news agency.
Lazzerini said it was very common for the syndrome to develop on both hands or wrists.
Cases of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome have increasingly been observed among people who frequently send text messages on their mobile phones.
