French President Nicolas Sarkozy is set to visit German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin Sunday so the two can lay down plans for an upcoming European Union summit, said a German government spokesman on Monday, DPA reported.
The EU summit is set for October 17-18 in Brussels and will, as has become standard in the last three years, focus on the economic problems roiling the bloc.
The meeting will come just after Merkel meets Thursday with International Monetary Fund President Christine Lagarde, European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet and World Bank President Robert Zoellick to discuss global financial markets.
