Spain's Basque separatist organization ETA on Thursday vowed to renounce terrorism, in a statement published by Basque newspaper Gara, dpa reported.
ETA announced a "definitive cessation of armed activities," according to the statement.
The announcement came three days after a conference in San Sebastian, at which international leaders called on the movement to end its armed activities on the Iberian Peninsula.
Since its founding in 1959, ETA - the Basque Homeland and Freedom movement - has called for the creation of a sovereign Basque state carved out of northern Spain and southern France.
The movement has killed about 850 people since 1968.
