Syrian authorities should take the last chance given to them and immediately fulfil the plan of Special Envoy of the UN and the Arab League to Syria, Kofi Annan. Turkish President Abdullah Gul made this statement yesterday at a meeting of the National Security Committee, Sabah newspaper reported.
Following the meeting, Gul said that Syria should stop the violence and move on to negotiations between the conflicting parties.
At present there is an uneasy truce between the armed wing of the opposition the 'Free Syrian army' and governmental troops within Kofi Annan's plan.
Anti-government protests have persisted in Syria since March 2011. Daily reports are being received about the deaths of people, both civilian and the security forces.
According to UN statistics, the total number of victims in the country exceeds 10,000. Syrian officials have said that clashes with the armed opposition have killed more than 2000 servicemen and law enforcement officials of Syria against which there are well armed militants.
