Thermal power plants increase electricity generation in Azerbaijan in Jan.-Aug.

Azerbaijan generated 15.27 billion kw/hours of electricity in January-August 2014, which is 6.3 percent more than in the same period of 2013, according to the State Statistics Committee's report as of eight months of 2014.

Around 14.48 billion kw/hours of electricity of the total volume of electricity generated in January-August accounted for commodity electricity, which is 5.8 percent more than in the same period of 2013.

Around 13.53 billion kw/hours of the total volume of commodity electricity generated in January-August 2014 accounted for thermal power plants (TPP), which is 7 percent more than in the same period of last year.

Hydroelectric power plants (HPP) generated 945.4 million kw/hours of commodity electricity in Azerbaijan in January-August or by 9.9 percent less than in the same period of 2013.
Around 4.2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity were generated by wind power stations in January-August.

Azerbaijan generated about 20.63 billion kw/hours in 2013 or by 0.6 percent more compared to 2012. Around 19.26 billion kw/hours of the total volume of electricity generated in 2013 accounted for TPP or by 2.7 percent more compared to 2012. HPP last year generated nearly 1.37 billion kw/hours of electricity or by 21.7 percent less compared to 2012.

The power generation system of Azerbaijan has increased by 30 percent for the past five years. At present, the figure is 7105 megawatts, which makes it possible to generate about 24 billion kw/hours of electricity. This allows the country to annually export 2.1 billion kw/hours of electricity.
