Kyrgyz Parliament adopts new customs duties

Parliament of Kyrgyzstan adopted new customs duties on a number of basic commodity items, as decided at parliamentary session, news agency "24.kg" reported.

Deputies voted on each separate product. As a result, tariffs for sugar, flour, vegetable oil, and rice import were set to nil.

Meat tariff raised lots of arguments. Part of MPs considers that existed 10 percent tariff rate must be remained unchanged, the other part of MPs - it must be increased to 20 percent. However, Minister of Economic Regulation of the Kyrgyz Republic Uchkunbek Tashbayev explained that according to WTO rules, meat tariff cannot exceed 10 percent. Following his explanation, it was decided not to change the existing meat tariff.
