First Deputy Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ziyafat Asgarov urged foreign diplomats accredited in Baku not to interfere in the internal affairs of the country.

"I appeal to the diplomatic corps operating in Azerbaijan," he told media today. "If the meetings between foreign diplomats and some leaders of the Azerbaijani opposition disrupt the social and political stability in the country, it will be regarded as interference in Azerbaijan's internal affairs.

He added that if they speak about the violation of socio-political stability in Azerbaijan during the meetings then of course this issue does not correspond to the diplomatic status.

"We cannot remain indifferent to this problem," he said. "We do not consider meetings between diplomats and the opposition as a disaster, but why do they meet with these people, rather than with representatives of other layers of the population? Why do not they meet with refugees and IDPs? Why do they meet with the representatives of the forces seeking to disrupt stability in Azerbaijan? Therefore, the purpose of these meetings is to incite the opposition against the state."
