The Kazakh Senate adopted a bill "On amendments to the Law "On holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan" at a plenary session on Saturday. The bill sets a new national holiday - the Day of the First President of Kazakhstan, marked on Dec. 1, Kazakh Prime Minister's press-service reported.

The First Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's prominent role in the construction of statehood was stressed at the session.

Nursultan Nazarbayev is the first president of independent Kazakhstan. First Nazarbayev was elected as president at nationwide elections, which took place on Dec.1, 1991. Then he gained 98.7 percent of votes. Since that time Nazarbayev was reelected four times and is Kazakh President at present.
