Today Turkmenistan is celebrating Oraza Bayram - the Islamic holiday marking the end of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.
August 31 has been declared a day off. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov congratulated compatriots on Wednesday.

"I heartily congratulate you on this sacred Oraza Bayram - a holiday which combines the highest spiritual and moral values of humanity and draw the peoples together even more," the letter reads.

Berdimuhammadov wished happiness to this independent neutral motherland and for families of the hard-working native people to be constantly surrounded by happiness and love."

"Holy Oraza Bayram is one of the holidays celebrating the triumph of high spirituality and morality, as well as humanist principles. Symbolizing a community of historical and cultural roots of many peoples of the East originating from ancient times, Oraza Bayram is one of the wonderful holidays which unites humanity. This holiday is close to all of us concentrating on universal spiritual values of the ancient peoples, reflecting the humanist principles of our nation, its high moral features, and a special way of thinking. High regard for the cultural values of humanity, the revival of age-old principles of our people's lives, cultural traditions, and customs are the highest advances achieved in our new historical epoch," the message reads.

Following the holy book of God - the Koran - honoring the spirit of fathers and great grandfathers, performing a pilgrimage to holy places - these are the sacred traditions and rituals that the Turkmen people consider their duty to fulfill, the message reads.

"Our own people have particular respect towards the Oraza month, during which God's blessings is received. Being generous, having a clear conscience, living honestly and with dignity are the main national features of our people. These age-old features of our people find their brighter expression in the blessed month of Oraza, covered with a moral purity, mercy, and humanism which become excellent values, and bring people together, making them brothers," the message reads.

Berdimuhammadov wished all compatriots good health, longevity, constant prosperity within families, success in life, and success in work.
