Venezuela and Turkey sign deal for Caracas-Istanbul flight

The governments of Venezuela and Turkey on Wednesday signed an agreement to launch a direct flight between Caracas and Istanbul in an effort to boost bilateral trade and business, Xinhua reported.

The agreement was signed in Caracas by Temir Porras, Venezuela's Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and the Middle East, and Turkish Assistant Foreign Minister Selim Yenes under the framework of the joint commission between both countries, Venezuela's official news agency reported.

The two countries also agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in other areas such as housing, energy and culture.

Porras said the new direct route between Venezuela and Turkey will make the Simon Bolivar International Airport in Venezuela's northern state of Vargas Istanbul's main gateway to the South American region.

"This will promote and boost bilateral relations," Porras said, adding that the agreement is the first step to establish the norms for the future exchange of airline services between Turkey and Venezuela.

Porras said that Turkish Finance Minister Zafer Caglayan will visit Venezuela in months to discuss the details of inaugurating the flight to Venezuela, which will be operated by Turkish airlines.
