Parliament of Georgia protested against the appointment of the governor of the Krasnodar Territory Alexander Tkachev as special representative of the President of the Russian Federation in Abkhazia and calls on the international community for an adequate response.

This decision of President Medvedev actually means official joining of Abkhazia to Russia, deputy speaker of parliament from the opposition Paata Davitaia said at today's meeting of the Bureau.

Davitaia noted that, Abkhazia is also outraged by this fact, because it realized that there can be no question of independence, because Abkhazia is actually attached to the Krasnodar Territory.

"The governor is a member of the Olympic Committee and appointed as a special representative at the occupied territories. It is totally unacceptable, the appropriate international response must follow," Davitaia said.

He applied the Bureau to entrust the Committee on Youth Affairs and Sports and National Olympic Committee to apply to the IOC and inform them of what is actually happening around the Olympics.

Military actions were launched in the Georgian territory, South Ossetia on Aug.8 in 2008. Later the Russian troops occupied the Tskhinvali city and drove the Georgian military back. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August. In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced two unrecognized republics as the occupied territories.
