Over 900 people died in traffic accidents in Azerbaijan last year

Azerbaijan recorded 2,721 traffic accidents in 2010, the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry's Central Traffic Police Department told Trend. The traffic accidents killed 925 people and injured 2,871.
The number of traffic accidents decreased by 71 incidents (2.5 percent) compared to 2009 and the number of injured people fell by 172 (5.7 percent. The number of dead individuals fell by only five people (0.5 percent).
Police officers revealed 965,231 traffic violations (SDA), including 21,462 cases of drunk driving, 117,152 cases of breaking the speed limit, 18,143 passing violations, 54,990 right of way violations at intersections, and 6,319 passenger traffic violations.
Some 93.1 percent of the traffic accidents occurred due to violations of traffic rules.
The accidents killed 76 children and teenagers and injured 270. Of the victims, 744 were men and 181 were women. Among the injured, 2,131 were male and 740 were female.
