BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 26. Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Asad Majeed Khan within the framework of the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, the statement of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said, Trend reports.
“In the course of the meeting, the sides discussed current issues of cooperation between Azerbaijan and ECO, as well as prospects of cooperation within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
Jeyhun Bayramov informed the other side that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to cooperation with ECO and is always ready and interested in contributing to the expansion of regional cooperation within the framework of the organization.
Moreover, it was noted that the expansion of cooperation in the spheres of economy, energy security, transport, and communications is one of the priority directions for both sides.
The importance of enhancing cooperation among the Member States of the Organization and contributing to the joint economic development of the region was emphasized.
In line with the organization's lines of action and objectives, the importance of enhancing intra- and inter-regional trade was reiterated.
The other side was informed about the current regional situation, rehabilitation and reconstruction works carried out in the territories liberated from occupation, as well as the current status of the agenda of normalization of relations and peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Secretary General Asad Majeed Khan noted that Azerbaijan's active and productive participation in the activities of the organization is highly appreciated; our country is a reliable partner for the ECO member states.
He noted that ECO attaches special importance to the idea of transitioning to a green and clean environment and expressed readiness to provide appropriate support to the implementation of steps and initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan in this direction.
The importance of selecting the city of Shusha by the ECO as a tourist capital for 2026 was noted, and ideas about possible joint events this year were voiced.
Furthermore, the sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest at the meeting,” the statement reads.
