“Candidacy of Rasul Guliyev [ex-speaker, the chairman of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party] will not be cancelled in current circumstances, as a court sentence is required for it,“ Mazahir Manahov, the chairman of the Central Elections Commission (CEC), told Trend.
He noted that the CEC did have any authority to pit aside Guliyev’s, who was arrested in Ukraine, from the elections. Panahov noted that Guliyev’s candidacy can be cancelled in cases the court pleads him guilty. In current state he participates in the elections by default. If the no court hearings are held and he is not elected MP, the CEC will consider the issue linked with MP mandate and other matters in this connection.
