Actions for recognition of genocide in Khojali to be conducted capitals of 30 countries
The campaign "Justice for Khojali" was launched by Leyla Aliyeva, General Coordinator of Intercultural Dialogue of the OIC Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation on May 8, 2008, the Forum reported.
Armenian troops committed genocide in Khojali on Feb. 26, 1992. The tragedy began early morning. Within hours, over 613 unarmed Azerbaijani citizens were killed. Among them were 106 women and 83 children. About 1,000 people were disabled by shots; 8 families were fully destroyed. A total of 25 children lost both of their parents and 130 children lost one of them. About 1,275 people were taken prisoner. Around 150 people went missing. Eight families were completely killed.
The campaign started in capitals of 20 countries in February 2009 and successfully lasted during the year. Along with implementation of the campaign during the year, actions for recognition of the Khojali genocide are planned to be held in capitals of 30 countries. As part of the events the organizers will also present a song titled "Justice for Khojali" in the rap style, the Forum reported.
The Azerbaijani rap group "Deyirman" and American rap singer on social topics Tony Blackman will sing the song
"In November 2009, I met with the national coordinator of the campaign in Baku and after reading the information on this unprecedented injustice against the Azerbaijani people, I decided to engage in activities to bring the truth about Khojali genocide to the world public's attention," Blackman said
Leyla Aliyeva invited the singer to Azerbaijan to participate in this campaign through creating a song devoted to Justice for Khojali and perform it jointly with local singers
A famous American arranger, three times awarded the Grammy Gordon Williams, works over the song. In February, The organizers will hold a press-conference on the creation plan of the song at the TREND International News Agency's conference hall. OIC Forum Secretary General Elshad Iskenderov, guests Tony Blackman, Gordon Williams and Miri-Yusif (Deyirman group) will attend the conference
