Azerbaijan to hold measures to improve youth social welfare

Azerbaijan will hold measures to improve social welfare of youth during International Youth Year, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Intigam Babayev told journalists at an event on opening of International Youth Year in Azerbaijan Aug.18.

"Azerbaijan implements several projects to improve social welfare of young people - to provide them  with job places, works to prevent their involvement in drug addiction," Babayev said.

According to Babayev, at present 23,000 drug addicts are registered in Azerbaijan, 3,000 of which are young peoples and the Youth and Sports Ministry's task is to prevent youth involvement in drug addiction.

According to him, in the current International Youth Year Azerbaijan will hold the projects to improve young people's social activism, use of its potential to work on the country's development.

The period from August 12, 2010 to August 11, 2011 has been declared International Youth Year. The event on the opening of the International Youth Year in Azerbaijan was attended by representatives of youth and student organizations of the country, the Azerbaijani MPs.
