The work is underway on construction of a water canal from the Caspian Sea to the Semnan province, Iran's Energy Minister Majid Namdz was quoted as saying by the Iranian news agency ISNA.
Namdz said one of the main problems of the Semnan province is the lack of water.
"We are carrying out studies for the construction of a water channel, and we hope the province's water problem will be solved after the confirmation of the funds needed for the construction," he added.
Earlier, Iranian media reported on construction of water channel from the Caspian Sea to central areas, particularly to the Semnan province. Following the project implementation, it is expected to deliver two billion cubic meters of water per year to the central cities. The length of the water channel being built from the Caspian Sea to the Semnan province will hit 70 kilometers. Investment worth $ 15 is required for the project realization.
According to the official 2006 census, 589,742 people reside in the province. The Semnan province borders with the provinces of North Khorasan, Mazandaran and Gulistan, in the south - with the provinces of Yazd and Isfahan, the east - with the province of Khorasan and Rezavi and the west - with the provinces of Tehran and Gum.
