Baku has today hosted the "State and Religion Relations in Azerbaijan and Turkey" conference organized by the Center for National and International Studies.

At the conference, Sakarya University Professor Aleaddin Yalcinkaya and member of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Shamil Rahmanzade made reports on the topic "Formation of the national states and in Azerbaijan and Turkey in the 19th -20th centuries and their relation to religion.

Yalcinkaya stressed Turkish Former Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan's important role in the issue of the state- religion relations.

Rahmanzade said modern, national and secular states based on liberal legislation were created in Azerbaijan in the early 20th century, and then in Turkey.

He said the ideas of the thinkers of the early 20th century played an important role in the development of society in Azerbaijan.

The conference participants exchanged views on relations among the state, religion and society in the world at the present stage.
