Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan.25 / Trend K. Zarbaliyeva /

Former MP candidate Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, accused of conscription dodging, was detained at the border with Georgia, Gazakh Region Police Department told Trend today.

Hajiyev, who was arrested on Jan. 24 while trying to cross the Azerbaijani-Georgian border, was taken to the Nizami district police station in the Ganja region.

A criminal case under Article 321.1 (conscription dodging) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code has been filed against Hajiyev by the Prosecutor's Office, Ganja city Prosecutor's Assistant Elnar Huseynov told Trend.

He said at present, the former MP candidate gives testimony. Huseynov doesn't consider choosing a preventive measure in the form of arrest against Hajiyev reasonable, as the article on which he is accused does not belong to the category of serious crimes. After the questioning, he will be released, Huseynov said.

Hajiyev ran for MP in the elections held in November last year from the third Yasamal Constituency No.17.
