A roundtable on a transformation to new media has been held at the Azerbaijani Presidential Center for Strategic Research.

New and traditional media are struggling, Institute of Information Technologies Director Rasim Aliguliyev said at the event. He said that the new media has economic problems. The media is governed by economic laws.

He said there are problems with staff in this area.

New media has been already recognized by the Azerbaijani society, the chairman of the Azerbaijani Press Council Aflatun Amashov said. "

This testifies to the fact that about 50 percent of the population have access to the Internet," he said. "A half a million of people use Facebook. About 2,000 bloggers work."

The heads of the media outlets, experts and representatives of relevant state bodies attended the round table.

The event was held in the format of Twitter-conference in Azerbaijan for the first time.
