Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Huseyngulu Bagirov said the amount of alternative energy produced in Azerbaijan will be the same as in developed countries eight to ten years from now.

The Ministry prepared a wind-power map for Azerbaijan a few years ago, he said. For many years, meteorological data has been collected and an archive analyzed. The map was developed based on this information," Bagirov said.

A map of solar radiation has also been developed, he added. "These maps were provided to the Alternative and Renewable Energy Agency at the Industry and Energy Ministry. An alternative energy strategy has been prepared on the basis of specifically these maps," he stated, adding that Azerbaijan already built the plant to produce solar panels.

"Work is underway on designing and building several power plants that would use wind power technology," Bagirov said. "I think that Azerbaijan can better provide for itself with alternative energy compared to other countries."
