Former deputy head of the military police of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, Colonel Malkhaz Bokhua was detained in Georgia on Wednesday on charges of grand embezzlement of budget funds, the Defense Ministry of Georgia told Trend.

According to the Ministry, the detention was conducted on the results of a joint investigation of the chief directorate of the Military Police Department of the Ministry of Defence and the Chief Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia.

Malkhaz Bokhua is accused of grand embezzlement of funds allocated for the special services of the military police of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia in the amount of over 500,000 lari ($ 1 = 1.64 lari) in the period from January to August 2012. According to the accusation, he committed this illegal act pulling his rank, being in cahoots with a group of people.

According to the Ministry, Bokhua is accused on paragraphs 'a' and 'e' of Article 182.2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, as well as paragraph 'b' of Article 182.3 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
