BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 15. Mozambique anticipates ExxonMobil will make a Final Investment Decision (FID) on its Rovuma LNG onshore terminal in 2026, said President Filipe Nyusi, Trend reports.

The announcement follows a meeting held yesterday in Maputo between President Nyusi and Liam Mallon, president of ExxonMobil Upstream Company.

During the discussions, Nyusi and Mallon reviewed the progress of the LNG project in the Rovuma basin, located in Cabo Delgado.

"We focused on the project's initial engineering phase, with plans to finalize approvals and make the Final Investment Decision by 2026," President Nyusi stated in a message shared on his official Facebook page.

Nyusi also highlighted that significant advances were reported, emphasizing that the project is expected to be one of the least polluting in the liquefied natural gas sector, with strong potential for a promising future.

Previously, on May 3, ExxonMobil’s CEO in Mozambique, Arne Gibbs, indicated that the FID could be made by the end of 2025.
