In total, 59 settlements will receive highland status in Georgia, which will benefit about 26,000 inhabitants and help to improve social conditions, said Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia, Trend reports citing Georgian media.
He made the remark at a government meeting.
The settlements are located in Gori, Dusheti, Tianeti, Aspindza and Dmanisi municipalities of Georgia, said the report
Furthermore, Gomi Mountain village in the Guria region of Georgia will also receive the status of settlement and then - of highland settlement.
"Some 26,000 citizens will be added to the 246,000 citizens who already enjoy this status,” Gakharia said.
During the meeting, he noted that Borjomi Municipality will be the first to be authorized by the government of Georgia to establish a legal entity under public law for the effective management of the Bakuriani resort.
The Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia is implementing eight projects in Bakuriani for which 58 million lari ($18.9 million) is allocated.
