German GIZ reveals details of Memorandum of Understanding signed with Turkmenistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 16

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

The Memorandum of Understanding is signed to implement the Turkmenistan Component of the Regional Project “Integrative and Climate Sensitive Land Use in Central Asia” with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection of Turkmenistan, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH told Trend.

“The project will be implemented from March 2021 to February 2024. It’s objective is that land users, government agencies, and the private sector in Central Asia have adopted, economically, and ecologically sustainable forms of land use, taking climate change into account,” said GIZ.

GIZ noted that it implements the project on behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) together with its national partners in all Central Asian countries intending to continue elaborating and anchoring integrative land-use approaches, fostering the progress in the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, increasing partner organizations’ staff capacity and promoting institutional development.

“In Turkmenistan, preparatory work for the piloting of the law “On pastures”, which was approved in 2015, is in process, with the subsequent development of many of the most important normative documents. Improvement of the legislative base of the forest sector is also in process,” said GIZ, adding that many new normative documents are coordinated by the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Environmental Protection and Land Resources.

GIZ noted that the project is active in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. German Development Cooperation with Turkmenistan only takes place within the framework of regional projects for Central Asia. The cooperation is functional, and project activities are carried out according to national health regulations and guidelines.
