Iran increases import of wheat

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec. 2

Trend:

Iran unveiled the amount of wheat imported in the first eight months of the current Iranian year (started on March 21), Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

The amount of imported wheat in the first 8 months of the current year was equal to 3.8 million tons, which is an increase of 41 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran, the amount of unloading of basic goods including wheat, barley, corn, soybeans, rice, sugar and edible oil in the country's ports during the eight months of the current Iranian year amounted to 17.8 million tons, which shows a growth of 32 percent compared to the same period last year.

The total amount of wheat received or unloaded into the grain facilities of the Iranian ports in the first 8 months of the last Iranian year was equal to 2.7 million tons.

During the mentioned period, the total amount of barley received or unloaded into the Iranian ports was equal to 2.4 million tons, which shows a growth of 143 percent compared to same period last year.

The total import of corn and rice into the country`s ports has decreased by 4 percent and 7 percent, respectively in the first 8 months of the current Iranian year, compared to the same period of the previous year.

The total amount of soybean unloaded into the Iranian ports was equal to 3.5 million tons, experiencing a growth of 85 percent, compared to same period of last year.
