TEHRAN, Iran, Feb. 7

Trend:

Head of Tehran Fruit and Vegetable Traders Union Mostafa Daraie-Nejad warned against critical situation with local potato supply in Iran, Trend reports citing ILNA.

“Lack of market control has led to the prices increasing twofold, as one kilogram of potatoes jumped from $1.5 to over $3," he said.

Daraie-Nejadstated that a high volume of potatoes has been stored in warehouses in Hamedan Province.

Iranian farmers have produced 5.5 million tons of potatoes during the current Iranian year (started on March 21, 2021), which was mostly exported to Iraq, Russia, Ukraine and Oman.

“The Union will import 20,000 tons of potatoes from Pakistan to reduce the market prices, if the Ministry of Agriculture does not take any action to restore balance in the market,” he said.
