TEHRAN, Iran, August 1. Iran and Iraq relations are improving, former Iranian diplomat Amir Mousavi told Trend.

Iran supplies 45 million cubic meters of gas to Iraq to feed 15 power plants, major Iraqi cities will face power outages if Iran suspends its gas export, he said.

"Iran exports electricity to Iraq without receiving revenues, while Iraqi banks have frozen $7 billion of Iran's assets. And yet Iran hasn't stopped exporting power," Mousavi said.

He underlined the recent electricity interconnection agreement between Iraq and Saudi Arabia would transmit 400 megawatts of electricity to Iraq, adding that Iran has cheaper energy prices compared to Saudi Arabia.

According to the diplomat, Iran's energy prices are exceptional for Iraq, and the country has installed two gas pipelines from Naft Shahr to Baghdad and Abadan to Basra that can transfer 50 million cubic meters of gas to Iraq.
